Landfill tax is designed to encourage business and consumers to produce less waste and to recycle rather than dispose of waste.

Certain inert waste (such as bricks and blocks) is taxed at £2 per tonne and all other waste is taxed at a standard rate of £24 per tonne for supplies made on or after 1 April 2007 (previously £21 per tonne).
