Further success in the pipeline as Keighley firm marks fifty years in business

A Keighley steel tube manufacturing company is celebrating 50 years of business success and familyowned independence this year.

Wells Spiral Tubes Ltd, based in Prospect Works, Airedale Road, makes and distributes spiral tubes, fabrications and associate fittings across the UK and Europe, is marking the anniversary on 5 September.

The firm specialises in flue systems, well void tubes, galvanised, aluminium and stainless steel ductwork, drainage, agriculture and civil engineering.

The firm has completed the installation of three new spiral tube machines to improve flexibility, a new glass entrance to the premises and doubled the size of the external yard. It is also holding a commemorative event for staff and clients.

Financial advice around the investment and expansion is provided by leading West Yorkshire chartered accountants, Hentons.

Established in 1967 in Bradford, Wells Spiral currently employs 24 people at its Keighley site and is currently recruiting more staff after adding to its workforce earlier this year.

The successful manufacturing firm is run by two female directors. Paula Stenhouse, managing director and Deborah Wells, daughter of Wells Spiral Tubes’ founder Philip Wells, who inherited the business following her father’s death in 2009. In 2014, the firm was one of just a handful of UK companies to be awarded a CE marking for its flue systems.

Paula Stenhouse commented: “This is a significant milestone for the business and we’ve seen some monumental changes in the manufacturing sector in the past ten years which we have been in great shape to embrace and exploit. Having two determined, hands on female directors at the helm supported by a loyal and dedicated team means the business never stands still and we are constantly looking for ways to innovate and remain flexible. Both key factors in our ongoing success.

‘’Hentons have been very much at the heart of what we’ve been able to achieve providing sound financial advice and ensuring that important investments made by the business were carried out at exactly the right time to facilitate future growth.

We still have ambitious plans for the firm moving forward, building on the incredible legacy of the past 50 years and Hentons are very much part of the team involved in that journey.”

Simon Gray, a partner at Hentons, said: “Wells Spiral Tubes is a great business which continues to evolve and adapt to the ever changing manufacturing industry. With a strong heritage and reputation, it can be truly proud of, the company is well placed to continue to grow and cement its status nationally and internationally.”
